Backstreet Boys Structure Collapses During Show

Fourteen people were injured when strong winds blew down a pavilion on them as they waited to get into a Backstreet Boys concert at a casino in Oklahoma.

About 150 people were queuing for the concert at WinStar World Casino in the town of Thackersville on Saturday when winds up to 130km/h knocked down trusses at the entrance to the venue.

The casino said in a statement posted on Twitter they had not heeded prior warnings to seek shelter, as staff began an evacuation of the outdoor concert venue ahead of an oncoming storm.

The fourteen injured were taken to hospital and two had already been released, the casino said.

"We know that fans often suffer through inclement weather for their favourite acts, but this was an unusual event and our thoughts are with those who were injured during this storm," it added.

The Backstreet Boys later tweeted that the concert had been cancelled.

"We never want to put our fans in harm's way and with tonight's weather and the injuries from earlier, we have decided to cancel the show and will attempt to reschedule," the band wrote on Twitter.

"The most important thing is for everyone to get home safely and we will see you all very soon!"
