BTS Becomes First K-Pop Act To Top U.S. Album Chart
BTS have officially become the first K-pop act in history to top the U.S album chart with their new LP, Love Yourself: Tear.
On Sunday (May 27), Billboard announced that the Korean pop group's new album had debuted at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart. This is impressive for any artist, yet alone BTS whose huge achievement is so profound for a K-pop act.
As per Nielsen Music, Love Yourself: Tear sold 135,000 total copies in its debut week, including 100,000 traditional copies. The album also serves as the second top 10 entry for the K-pop genre after BTS' 2017 Love Yourself: Her debuted and peaked at No. 7.
Not only is the BTS fandom (most commonly referred to as the 'BTS ARMY') going crazy over the album charting, but South Korean President Moon Jae-in also tweeted out his congratulations to the boys:
Congratulations to the Seven Music-loving Boys and Their Wings, ‘ARMY’!— 문재인 (@moonriver365) May 28, 2018
The songs, dance, dreams and enthusiasm of BTS energized and gave strength to young people around the world. https://t.co/6ZL4XdrZVv
It's been a momentous month for the BTS ARMY, particularly after the group picked up the Top Social Artist title at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards, where they performed their hit song, Fake Love.
