Avril Lavigne Confronts Health Battle On New Song 'Warrior'
Avril Lavigne finds healing on her new song.
Earlier this week, Lavigne unveiled a snippet for her latest song "Warrior," a deeply personal record in which the singer opens up about her ongoing health battle with Lyme disease.
The condition, described as an "inflammatory disease" in which a rash, headache, fever, and chills can be symptomatic of graver neurological and cardiac disorders, has blighted the pop star since 2014 after she was bitten by a tick.
The 34-year-old previewed the new track on Instagram — along with another titled "Love Me Insane" about willing one's self to fall in love again — with a note of its importance on her long-awaited sixth studio album, Head Above Water, slated to release on February 15.
“This is one of the first songs I wrote for the album after ‘Head Above Water.’ They are both about the health battle I continue to fight every day," she writes in the post, adding, "I hope my songs can help you find strength if you need it…"
The lyrics mimic this spirited sentiment, which is felt through Lavigne's anthemic verses, like, "I'm a warrior/ I fight for my life like a soldier/ All through the night/ And I won't give up, I will survive."
"Warrior" is the third record to come from the musician's upcoming full-length project after previously-released singles "Tell Me It's Over" and "Head Above Water."
