Def Leppard Guitarist Weighs In On AC/DC Album With Axl

If AC/DC record a new album with Axl Rose as frontman, it shouldn’t be labelled an AC/DC album.

At least that’s Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen reckons.

In fact, Collen says there shouldn’t be an AC/DC album with Rose on vocals at all.

In case you missed it, the Guns ‘N’ Roses frontman replaced Brian Johnson on the remainder of AC/DC‘s their Rock Or Bust world tour. Johnson stepped down because of hearing issues.

Since then, there have been reports of Angus Young floating plans to record a new album with Rose.

During an interview by a US radio station, Collen said that Rose did a “great job” backfilling Johnson, but when he was asked whether there should be an AC/DC album with Rose on vocals, he was to-the-point.

“No,” he said.

“I’m a huge AC/DC fan, and if the whole band’s left or gone… Malcolm dead, obviously. Brian Johnson got kicked out. Cliff Williams retired and Phil Rudd got arrested. You’ve got one person [left], so it’s not really AC/DC. Maybe call it ‘A, WITH AXL ROSE.'”

“I think as a band, if he was gonna do an album, it may sound good, but it’s not really the band anymore,” he said.
