Georgia Love's Hard Truth About THAT Heart Emoji
Women of Australia - by now you've probably received the following message in your Facebook inbox:
"Let's do it for Connie! Hi xxxx, Can you put a <3 on your FB wall, without comment, only a heart, and then send this message to your women contacts? This is for women to remember it's the week of breast cancer prevention!"
While the sentiment is beautiful, and a lovely way for us to remember the true spirit of Connie Johnson who passed away on Friday after a long battle with cancer, the Bachelorette, Georgia Love has another idea.
Georgia, who is currently on a blissful holiday in Europe has penned a heartfelt response to those "heart emoji statuses" and posted it to her insta story.
"PLEASE READ" it said, "I just got a message (as I assume many of you have) requesting I post "<3" to my wall with no explanation, to raise awareness of cancer in the wake of the heartbreaking news of Connie Johnson's death. And I am furious."
The 29-year-old, who lost her own Mum Belinda, to pancreatic cancer last November, goes on to say that she doesn't blame her friend for sending it to her, nor anyone else who forwarded it.
"But what is posting a heart emoji as a status going to do??" she continues. "It does not raise awareness. The message in fact orders the recipient NOT to post any message just the stupid bloody emoji."
Georgia also questions why this message is sent to women only.
"Why?? Are men not capable of wanting to stop the spread of breast cancer?" she wrote.
Instead of a status, Georgia wants to incite conversation about "deadly diseases and raising funds to find cures and early detection."
The post is heartfelt and we can't help but wholeheartedly agree with her.
