Kid Cudi has bravely opened up on Facebook to his 10 million+ fans, revealing the inner shame, angst and anxiety that has plagued his career.
"Its been difficult for me to find the words to what Im about to share with you because I feel ashamed. Ashamed to be a leader and hero to so many while admitting I've been living a lie [sic]."
Kid Cudi then goes on to tell his fans he has checked himself into a rehab facility for treatment of depression and suicidal urges, saying, "If I didn't come here, I wouldve done something to myself [sic]."
According to Beyond Blue, depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide, affecting 45 per cent of people in Australia during their lifetime. In any one year, around 1 million Australian adults have depression, and over 2 million have anxiety.
Celebrities feel the full affect of the debilitating condition as well, Cudi explaining that depression and anxiety has ruled his life for as long as he can remember which has eroded his ability to trust people and make new friends, and to even leave the house.
Always thinking of his fans he has promised that all business has already been "squared away" and that new releases of music and videos will carry on as normal, before signing off with apologies and "I love you, Scott Mescudi."
