Ruby Rose Cast As First LGBTIQ Live-Action Batwoman
From MTV VJ to fully fledged actress, Ruby Rose has come a long way in the past decade.
And her next role is something to get excited about.
Rose has been officially cast as Batwoman and is joining the DC universe.
Whatmore - they have made the intentional decision to be open about the character, Kate Kane's, sexuality. Portraying her as a lesbian.
Set to first appear in the December DC crossover event, it is expected the character will then be given her own stand-alone series ala Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Black Lightning and Legends of Tomorrow.
To all my fans who were upset I couldn’t stay back after the premiere to sign pics and take photos.... I promise tomorrow you will know why... I never ignore my fans.. but I had to bounce to something immediately and you will know why tomorrow. XXX trust me :)— Ruby Rose (@RubyRose) August 7, 2018
Trust me... the whole cast are at the after party right now... celebrating our hard work finally making it to the big screen and I can’t go because ... news... big news.. I’m working... and I’m doing it for you x— Ruby Rose (@RubyRose) August 7, 2018
It all comes as executive producer Greg Berlanti maps out a soon to be launched DC Universe subscription digital platform which will house even more comic book spin offs.
Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries) is already onboard to write the script for Batwoman.
Ruby Rose's credits include Orange Is The New Black, The Meg and Pitch Perfect 3 in recent years.
The CW's collection of superheros will also see a trans superhero joining the cast as a season regular of Supergirl, played by actor Nicole Maines, who is trans activist herself.
Great to see a broader representation spreading out into the superhero universe!
