Splendour In The Grass 2016 Lineup Announced

An Australian band with just one record behind them are the biggest surprise on this year's Splendour In The Grass line-up.

The annual music festival held in Byron Bay has announced their official line up with The Strokes and The Cure top the bill along with Aussie crowd-pleasers Flume and Courtney Barnett.

But it's the addition of The Avalanches, who released their sample-based album Since I Left You in 2000 and haven't played a gig together in years that has fans talking.

Their confirmation on the Splendour line-up, and the release on Tuesday of new artwork across their social media channels, implies that a new record could be imminent.

Flume fans may be hoping the crowd-pleasing DJ will provide a unique set in Byron. The Aussie electronic artist dropped his own version of Lorde's Tennis Court at Coachella two years ago and, if he's smart, he'll have a few surprises on his DJ decks for the Splendour crowd.

Also on the bill are US hard rocker At The Drive-In who announced they would be reuniting this year after a four year hiatus.

There's a strong Aussie line-up including Hermitude, Violent Soho, Matt Corby and Boy and Bear who have all been gigging recently so they will be warmed up by the time July rolls around.

The Aussie girl who seems to win every award going, including the recent APRA Songwriter of the Year, Courtney Barnett has played the festival several times before. Her 2015 performance was easily one of the highlights with a blistering set that showed off her killer guitar skills.

Iceland's ethereal Sigur Ros will bring the chill factor after the guitar-heavy sounds from the headliners.

Splendour In The Grass will take place at the North Byron Parklands from July 22-24. Tickets go on sale on April 21 at 9am.
