Vanessa Hudgens Announces Dad's Passing Hours Before Grease
Vanessa Hudgens shared some heartbreaking news with fans just hours before taking the stage in the televised version of Grease Live.
Her father, Greg, passed away on Saturday night after battling stage four cancer.
But as any professional performer knows, the show must go on.
Instead of dwelling in her grief, she said her role as Rizzo in Grease Live! will be a tribute to her late father.
I am so sad to say that last night my daddy, Greg passed away from stage 4 cancer. Thank you to everyone who kept him in your prayers.— Vanessa Hudgens (@VanessaHudgens) January 31, 2016
Tonight, I do the show in his honor.— Vanessa Hudgens (@VanessaHudgens) January 31, 2016
Hudgens initially revealed her father's illness to the public in mid-2015 via Instagram, asking fans to pray and keep him in their thoughts.
In her acceptance speech for Breakthrough Performance at the 2015 Industry Dance Awards & Cancer Benefit Show, the actress revealed her father's diagnosis, as well as the fact that her boyfriend Austin also lost his mother to cancer in recent years.
Our thoughts go out to her and her family in this difficult time.
