It’s not often that you get to a show that goes so hard that you literally bring the house down, but that’s exactly what happened at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Thursday night.

Punters had crammed into the venue for Genesis Owusu‘s first show in nine months but would be evacuated after just two songs.

Within the five minutes of the ARIA award winner’s set, the floor gave way, with attendees recalling hearing a sound when the sinkhole in the floor formed.

“This is really shit but [it’s] going to go down in history. You guys are the craziest crowd, you broke the Enmore in two songs”, Owusu reportedly told the audience.

Thankfully, no injuries have been reported as a result of the incident.

Enmore management released a statement today saying that “relentless rain” was behind the weakened floor, and that works will be carried out to strengthened the section.

“The floor of the theatre has been assessed and remediation works have commenced. We have isolated the section that was affected by water and are further reinforcing the surrounding areas as a further precaution. We would like to thank Genesis Owusu and his touring party for working with us to ensure the safety of our patrons as a priority.” a spokesperson said.

It is unclear how long the damage will render the venue out-of-action.
